In New England our 14th annual Mid-Winter Singing Weekendwill be held at the Hulbert Outdoor Center in northeastern Vermont, its expansive grounds offering opportunities for cross-country skiing as well as ice skating on Lake Morey.
This year the workshop will be led by veteran Village Harmony teachers Patty Cuyler (VH co-director) and Mollie Stone (director at Chicago Children's Choir/University of Chicago), and first-timer Frank Watkins (gospel singer/director of choral studies at University of Wisconsin).
We’ll sing both as a big group and in smaller classes from the wide range of world music traditions for which Village Harmony is famed, including gospel, American shape-note songs, folk songs from Corsica, Caucasus Georgia and Bulgaria, and some great new dance-songs from South Africa.
As always, Saturday night will feature a dance party led by Louise Brill, with food and libations galore. We’ll put together a jolly dance band to supplement recorded music with any of you who bring instruments with you.
The weekend begins with supper at 6:00pm followed by our first singing session. The long party ends on Sunday at 3:00pm.
Accommodations at Hulbert Outdoor Center are largely quadruple rooms, with some double rooms available. Cabins are winterized and very cozy. Commuters are, as always, welcome at a reduced fee!
$240 per person in 4-person shared bunk room
$320 per person for a double room
$200 special teen price
$175 for commuters
