Planting songs and uncovering voices for wellness.
WHAT
The Juneberry Sing to Connect Program is an in-person place where we sing to connect with ourselves and each other. Bring your whole self, as you are right now -- the whole mix of brokenness and wholeness, fear and courage, despair and joy, loneliness and connectedness is welcome! We will make music that celebrates, explores, delights. We will practice huge inclusion, intent listening, and embodied sound making.

WHO Open to people of all ages (although if your child younger than 16 wishes to participate, please contact Patricia before showing up so you know what to expect). No singing experience required, all singing experience welcome. Complex parts given to the people who long for complexity; solid, reliable parts given to those looking to stabilize... all singers supported. "Finding Your Voice" is particularly good if you think you're not a singer -- let me prove you wrong! "Fire" is by permission only, for confident singers wishing to record and perform. WHEN The program happens twice each week -- (except for during school vacations) Tuesday middays from 11:30-1:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Your weekly cost covers both sessions; you are welcome to come to either or both. |
HOW
You are welcome to sing with us in a way that suits your needs!
You are welcome to sing with us in a way that suits your needs!
- Buy a membership for 16 weeks of singing, and then you don't have to think twice about whether or not to come -- just put it on your calendar and show up. Great for building a good habit, strengthening your voice, and making the kinds of repeated connections that build friendships. Juneberry Connection members receive a substantial discount to all events, and are expected to register & show up to each week of the mini sessions as committed singers.
- Or, you can pick and choose what appeals and works for you -- one mini session here, a few circlesings or songtimes there.
REGISTRATION
Registration is simple; you click on the link in the class description or calendar event listing to give us your name and email, then go look for your welcome email, which includes all the payment information. You can pay securely online ahead with a credit card, or use Paypal, Venmo, cash or check. For SongTimes or Circlesings, you're welcome to either drop-in and pay at the door, or register ahead.
WHERE The program is held at the Heineberg Community & Senior Center, which was built by volunteers in the New North End in 1941 with a mission "to promote the common welfare" of the community. This is a very retro space, with great acoustics and a fabulous 70s vibe! The center welcomes people of all ages, and is easily accessible by bus, walking, bike, or car, with plenty of parking. We are on the upper floor, which is accessible by elevators or stairs from the side parking lot door. The hardwood floor is beautiful, and generous windows give good light. (I'm tempted to add a disco ball!) |

Finding Your Voice is a four week mini session of developing skills for singing in groups (yes, they are learnable, no matter where you're starting from!) Using the innate inclination of your own body, and many tricks and tips Patricia has learned, you get to explore your voice in the security of group sound. Laughter-filled, gentle, and occasionally a little wild, this session helps you rediscover the uniqueness of your voice and how you belong in group singing. 4 week mini-session open only to pre-registered, committed singers, so that this group gets to know each other. $25/week = $100/session... unless you are a Juneberry Connects member, in which case it is $20/week, already paid for in your membership. Group size between 5 and 15. |
In October and December, alternating weeks between SongTimes and Circlesings give lots of singing time. Come to one day, come to all of them -- register ahead of time, or simply show up at the door.
SongTimes are all-come, heart-opening, song medicine sessions. Patricia will choose a circle of songs based loosely on a structure from Joanna Macy's The Work that Connects: Gathering, Gratitude, Grief, Praise, Power, and Protection. All songs are taught in the moment, including harmonies, percussion, and basslines, depending on the inclination of the group. Drop in at the door or register ahead here. If you plan to pay in cash, we ask that you bring exact change.
Pay-as-you-can options include a range of prices from $18, to support other singers' access, to $15 for basic cost coverage, to $10 or $5, if there is financial need. There is the option of a punchcard when you register, as well. As a card-carrying Juneberry member, you pay $12.50/week. |
Circlesinging is based on the practices of Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, and Zuza Gonçalves. We layer nuggets of sound color and feelings and energy to create ephemeral music, moving through playfulness and discomfort to hear the heart and root music singing in our core. All experience is welcome, no experience is necessary. Might sound complicated or intimidating, but is actually a little weird and a lot wonderful! Drop in at the door or register ahead here. If you plan to pay in cash, we ask that you bring exact change.

In November there is a Flow Singing 4-week mini-session, during which a committed group of pre-registered singers learns a set of songs with greater depth and security. With as little talking as possible, we sing through a series of 6-8 songs that can support and nourish us, learning them more deeply each week. Think meditation with singing and a maybe dollop of laughter and tears. All voices are welcome; there will be ways for all singers to deepen their own practices through these songs. $20/week = $80/session, unless you are a card-carrying Juneberry member, in which case it is $15.00/week, already paid for in your membership.
